Revelation - The Hope: The Unholy Trinity

Click bait - Merriam Webster defines as something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest.
Since I only learned about click bait in the last few years, imagine my surprise when I found a definition in the dictionary!
Have you been a victim of click bait? Have you hit that button and been taken somewhere you did not want to go? When you get there, you find out you can’t get back to where you want to be! You’re getting 1000 other enticing headlines now. And some very unwanted content too 😳
My mom loves Facebook, and I’m going to pick on her a minute. She asked me to help her get a new phone so she could get rid of “all this nasty stuff on my phone." I tried to explain to mother that the reason she had “this nasty stuff” on her phone was because she clicked on something that took her to that content. This message would not sink in. She insisted she did NOT click on any nasty content. 🤦🏻♀️
Now by nasty stuff, I mean women in little bikinis or before and after shots of people after weight loss treatments or cosmetic surgery - a lot of bare chests and short bottoms and bad plastic surgery.
So now, she is being bombarded by click bait. She refuses to believe that she had any part in what appears on her phone. After weekly conversation, I finally gave in and got her a new phone and guess what? The “nasty stuff” is still on Facebook. I tried to block some of the content. But guess what? She’s still falling for the click bait because she can’t comprehend what it is. The nature of the algorithm beast.
So this is how click bait works on my mom’s phone. An article pops up on Facebook about healthy weight loss. She doesn’t know to look for “sponsored” or "ad" by the title. It looks legitimate. So she clicks. Instead of getting an article about healthy weight loss, she is now bombarded with weight loss ads. She didn’t ask to see people with their shirts off and belly’s hanging out, but there they are. So she presses some more buttons and woah! What is that?. Cover your eyes!!! And she has no idea how she even got there. So it must be a broken phone, right? It can’t be that she did anything wrong? All she wanted to do was read an article about healthy eating.
In Revelation 13, the beast emerges from the sea. He is given all the power and authority of the dragon, Satan. This beast has a fatal wound to one of its heads, but somehow miraculously lives. And how did the earth react to his presence? Amazed!!! The earth worships the dragon because of the salvation and authority he has given to the beast. All marvel at the wonders he performs.
And if anyone didn’t want to worship the beast of the sea. Here comes the hype man. The beast of the earth.
“It deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs that it is permitted to perform in the presence of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.” Revelation 13:14
The earth marvels at the signs and wonders of the beast of the earth. He hypes up the people to make images of the beast of the sea and worship them. The beast of the earth performs his signs and wonders and slowly increases in power. All are devoted to him and then he marks them. People can neither buy or sell without his mark.
“This calls for wisdom: , Let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, because it is the number of a person. Its number is 666. ” Revelation 13:18
Most people recognize that number!
The number 6 is representative of man. So 666 is literally man, upon man, upon man.
The dragon, beast of sea, and beast of the earth form the unholy trinity. They fool the majority of the people on the earth and are worshiped by every tribe, people, language, and nation. The unholy trinity appeals to "those who live according to the flesh and have their minds set on what the flesh desires." Romans 8:5.
So who does not fall victim to the unholy trinity?
“All those who live on the earth will worship it, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered. ” Revelation 13:8
Life is going to be hard. Even believers will want to give in and profess confidence and faith in the unholy trinity - man, upon man, upon man.
Sounds a great deal like life in 2025 doesn't it? Every day we are bombarded with click bait. The stuff of man. The stuff of the unholy trinity.
Have you hit a button in your life that has taken you where you did not want to go?
Have you found yourself engaged with content in your life that boasts the ways of the world and blasphemes God? Have you “waged war” online, or with a coworker, or with a partner, or a parent? Have you been held captive by envy, greed, self reliance, gossip, slander, deceit, arrogance, pride? The list is endless. Have you been compelled to worship your possessions, your job, or maybe even your church. Have you believed the click bait and purchased what you did not need - be it a tangible product or a mindset of earthly perfection. Have you allowed your clicks to give breath to things that add no value or worth to the world, even though they promise relief, prosperity, and peace?
We all are deceived by the unholy trinity - just like click bait that is dressed up as something benign and appealing. The unholy trinity operates in our day to day lives, begging us to just press the button. It can’t be that we are doing anything wrong? Just get a new phone and all “the nasty content” will go away, right? Will you let the message sink in? Or will you continue to deny that you ever clicked?
“Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Revelation calls for us to be wise. We are called to recognize when the world sells us man piled upon man piled upon man. But how do we gain wisdom ? How do we recognize Satan's click bait?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5
The devil is on the prowl for all of us. Gain wisdom and recognize the number of the beast that is 666. There may be a point in the future where there is an actual anti-christ with the number 666 on his forehead but until then, there is plenty of evil and suffering going on right now!
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline. ”
Proverbs 1:7
Don’t be a fool! Acknowledge which trinity you truly believe in and routinely engage with. Only one leads to peace. All else is foolishness.
